Student loans in further education

From August 2013, people aged 24 or over
wishing to take a level 3 or level 4 further
education course will be required to take out a
student loan to cover their course fees.

The Students Union hold all the Toni notes. If anyone is interested in reading them please Ask a member of the Students Union.

This is my last term as President of Students' Union so I hope to go out with a bang and make sure I leave nothing unfinished.

Just updating you on a few things that are happening over the coming weeks.

Student Union elections will be over shortly so we will find out who will be taking over my job next year. Make sure you all vote as this is your chance to appoint who you want to represent your views and opinions.

Your Voice meeting Wednesday 30th May in the Vision Room at Derby Road.

Lunch with Asha Thursday 31st May General invite to all learners in the Vision Room at Derby Road.

A trip to Playzone at Lincoln will be taking place on Monday 25th June, this is a good chance for you to go back to your childhood days and have fun with the super slides and ball pools, and the trip is £10 or £8 if you have an NUS card.

Trip to Amsterdam Tuesday 26th June - Thursday 28th June £99 includes transfers, flights and 2 night's accommodation this trip is provisional as we need people to put deposits down.

Can I remind all students that you need to be wearing your lanyard at all times and also you need to go to lessons on time.

We still have some uncollected NUS cards please remember to come and collect your card from Students' Union or contact us so we can send this to your campus. Remember the NUS card gives you massive discounts which come in handy to save you money.  Cards cost £11.

The Students' Union team are looking for people who want to get involved within the Union and those who want to do some volunteering. If you are interested in this then pop and see a member of the SU or check out our website www.westnottssu.co.uk  and Moodle or drop me an e-mail at james.stafford@wnc.ac.uk.

Green Impact Award

Green Impact

Massive congratulations go to the Students Union for achieving the Bronze award for the Green Impact. The Students Union took part in lots of activities, one of the big things was The Big Tidy up which we have done 5 times now and we also went around college turning lights off that where left on when not needed.

Next year the Students Union will be aiming for the silver award, wish us luck!

Greenhouse

Bottle Green House

The Students Union are encouraging both staff and students across all sites to recycle their empty plastic bottles and donate them to the Students Union.

If you have any to be recycled then please send them to the Students Union at Derby Road.

These bottles will then be made into a bottle greenhouse, as part of a project set up by the Environmental group!

PlayZoneThe Students' Union are running a trip to Play Zone in Lincoln to give you the chance to roll back the years and have hours of fun climbing nets, crawling through tunnels, flying down slides and plunging into ball pools!

5-5-4 Challenge

During April, May and June the Public Service and Sport Studies students and staff will be undertaking a charity events called '554 Challenge'.

(5 Teams-5 Trolleys-4 The Homeless)

The aim of the event is to fill 5 shopping trolleys with food items. the items will be donated to three charity projects in Mansfield who support the homeless. The projects are:

  • The Hall
  • The Beacon Project
  • YMCA

Donations of any tinned food or toiletries will be very welcome! For many of our community's homeless, the only decent meal the get is from one of these charities.
